The Federal Housing Finance Agency (FHFA) has proposed a new mortgage product it hopes will give homeowners a way to tap into home equity without surrendering the low rates they locked in the last several years. The agency sent a notice of a proposed new product to the Federal Register, which would enable Freddie Mac to purchase single-family closed-end second mortgages.

Very often while teaching underwriting courses I am often asked by students if the course will lead them to obtaining a CHUMS number or “DE” designation. I always say “no”. My classes always state that an employer must nominate an employee to be a FHA DE underwriter.

The Mortgage industry standing today is due to nonconforming and BC (bad Credit) lending practiced in the past. There were 3 kinds of lending in practice at that time. One was Conforming loans, FHA loans and Nonconforming.
